Tis the Season

Greetings Everyone!

Wow, is time passing quickly or is it just me? The holidays are fast approaching, Thanksgiving is just a couple days away and Christmas is knocking on the door. This is by far my favorite time of year. I love everything about it and I don't need much more than a bit of Christmas music to get me into the mood. Around my place the decor is starting to change from fall to Christmas and I must admit it’s like being a kid again, I even like the fog, it’s almost like snow.

During the holidays we finally take a moment to spend time with our friends and loved ones, enjoy wonderful food, laughter, memories and exchange a gift or two in appreciation for all our loved ones mean to use.

Lastly, this is the time of the year that we'll start to see the first snowfall of the season in many of my favorite Eastern Sierra photo spots. Trees will soon be covered in snow and I'll be out trudging through it to create new images for my 2009 New Releases, it’s a lot of fun!

I hope you enjoy this time of the year as much as I do. Filled with songs to sing, parties to attend and friends to gather with, this is the best time of the year to be thankful for all that we have. So, if I don't see or hear from you in the coming weeks, have a great Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Designer Christmas Cards

Christmas Card 1

Who doesn't love getting all those Christmas cards in the mail; seeing how friends and family have changed over the course of the last year is always fun. The only problem is everyone sends you those ugly, generic, template cards from Costco or Wal-Mart, you know the ones, all white, a single family picture and a very generic icon on one side...yeah those.

Want to upgrade your family cards this year? All my Christmas cards are custom designed by me every year, No templates, No icons, No large white backgrounds and most importantly great fine art heirloom pictures.

So come on in for a session and we'll start to design you Christmas cards that will make everyone on your list do a double take every time they see your card.

Don't have time for a session? That's a bummer, but I understand, it’s getting late and I don't have a lot of openings. Give me a call and I can use some of your own images to create your holiday card.

Take a look at a few of my new designs for 2008!

In addition to these I also have a catalog with hundreds of other designs to choose from along with Hallmark style fold over cards to choose from.

New Show Coming in September 2009

Autumn in the NarrowsMark your calendars; I have a new solo show coming to the Appel gallery in Sacramento next September. The show will feature many new images along with some of my "classic" images. While the final image selection has yet to be set, the show is being developed around the theme of water. As I have been picking images to print for the show I've noticed that most of my favorite images have water in them in some form, liquid, snow, ice or clouds. I'm very interested in water; it’s not only beautiful in all of its many forms but is essential for the life that we all enjoy.

The Appel gallery has been representing my work for a few yearsAppel Logo now and I'm very excited about having an opportunity to have a show of my own at the gallery. If you aren't familiar with the gallery I'd encourage you to visit their website, it’s a great place to show work and something I'm looking forward to very much. I hope you'll have the opportunity to visit the show in September and I'll be sure to pass along more information as we get closer to the opening.

Interview with Kim Weston

Kim WestonMost of you may know that I am the editor and co-founder of The Whitespider Photography Magazine. Luckily for me that gives me the opportunity to meet and interview some of the most high regonized and talented photographers in the world. My good fortune continued a couple of months ago when I had the opportunity to sit down with photographer Kim Weston in his studio near Carmel, California.

Kim has been working with the human form for almost 30 years, creating some of the subjects most beautiful and creative work during that time.  His images are technically perfect and emotionally telling, relating what is going on in his life at that time. While sharing the family name of other icons in the photography world such as his grandfather Edward, father Cole and uncle Brett, Kim has done more than just follow in their footstep, he has developed a vision that has allowed him to make his own large footprints in the photography world.

Kim is a wonderfully personable guy, opening not only his studio to us but also his darkroom and the darkroom and home of his grandfather Edward.  During our time with Kim we discuss not only his work but also his family and his vision of photography.

I know not everyone on my mailing list is a photographer themselves but for those of you that are interested in photography or a photography collector this is something you won't want to miss. You can read the interview, watch the video or listen to the podcast here. Oh, and just so you know, Kim does work with the human form and while his images are very tasteful and considered highly acclaimed works of art, many do contain nudity and the transcribed interview is illustrated with his images. Just so you know.
